Job Overview 

Our Logistics department is in search of a Yard Jockey to handle daily warehouse activities. You should be able to prepare trailers and yard vehicles for processing and dispatching shipments. Besides, you should be able to inspect the vehicles and conduct minor repairs as and when needed.  

As a Yard Jockey, you should be able to check the incoming and outgoing equipment for their functionality. Also, you should be able to maintain and update a report of the daily activities. In addition to this, you should comply to the health and safety standards at all times. 

To perform in this job role, you should have excellent physical fitness. You should be able to operate heavy machinery such as forklift and cranes. Moreover, you should also display strong collaborative skills as well as the ability to work independently. A proven work experience in a similar job role will be beneficial.

Responsibilities 

• Moving and handling equipment around the yard 

• Inspecting and conducting minor equipment repairs 

• Keeping the equipment in a safe and proper working order 

• Examining the functionality of incoming and outgoing equipment 

• Creating, updating, and maintaining equipment inventories 

• Operating the yard truck in a safe manner 

• Preparing equipment for loading and dispatching 

• Processing materials for shipment 

• Conducting timely trailer sanitization 

• Coordinating with Warehouse Workers in loading and unloading trailer 

• Preparing and maintaining a report of the daily activities 

• Adhering to the health and safety protocols at all times 

Requirements 

• High school diploma or GED 

• Proven work experience in the Logistics department as a Yard Jockey or a similar role 

• Familiarity operating yard vehicles, trailers, and containers 

• Understanding of inventory systems and databases 

• Knowledge of the health and safety guidelines 

• Excellent physical dexterity 

• Good time management and organizational skills 

• Having an eye for detail 

• Good communication and interpersonal skills 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

• Ability to work for long, flexible hours and on weekends 

• Highly motivated and hardworking individual 

• Strong multitasking abilities
