We are looking for a dynamic Literary Agent to join our agency. You will be an intermediary between the client, publishing houses, and other agents working in the same field, particularly book publicists. You will also be responsible for representing public figures looking to publish their works. Besides, you will play a major role in determining the potential market for the client’s work.
Your other responsibilities will include reviewing manuscripts and preparing submission guidelines. In addition to this, you should contact publishers and distributors with book proposals. Negotiating contract terms and getting favorable business deals for the clients are also a part of this job role. As a Literary Agent representing new authors, you should offer sound advice and guide them through the entire publishing process.
You should be able to oversee licensing agreements, monitor royalty rights, as well as protect the author’s interest at all times. In addition, you should maintain a network of contacts such as media professionals, advertising representatives, publishing houses, and other literary agencies.

Assessing fiction and nonfiction genres such as historical fiction, science fiction (sci-fi), and short stories among others.
Undertaking book promotional activities and campaigns
Helping clients understand the contract details and other legalities
Pitching book proposals to publishing houses
Identifying the potential market for the clients
Helping with calculating commissions and royalties
Maintaining media professionals and marketing agents list
Managing ongoing and new projects effectively
Drafting query letters and book deal proposals
Responding to clients queries via call and email
Assisting and guiding clients through the entire publishing process
Helping writers perfect their manuscript submissions
Negotiating contract terms with Publishers
Networking and attending literary events
Coordinating with the Graphic Designer for artworks such as book covers, promotional material, and illustrations for picture books
Assisting nonfiction and fiction authors pick themes popular among readers, particularly young adults
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature or a similar field
Previous work experience or internship at a literary agency
Excellent marketing and networking skills
Detail-oriented and persuasive
Strong analytical mind
Impressive communication skills
Up-to-date with the latest publishing industry trends
Familiarity with laws and regulations governing book contracts
Ability to work in a competitive environment
Well-informed about the publishing industry
Proficiency in computer applications and publishing software
Ability to read and edit manuscripts
