Job Overview 

We are looking for a highly motivated and hardworking Yard Hostler to be a part of our Logistics department. You should be able to review the yard space and determine the vehicle and container placements. Besides, you should also be able to carefully move the vehicles, containers, and transport materials to the weighing platform. You should also be able to clean and pack the equipment used after every use. 

As a Yard Hostler, you should be able to direct and supervise the movements of shipments. Moreover, you should be able to inspect the conditions of the vehicle and schedule maintenance appointments. Furthermore, you should be able to refuel vehicles whenever needed. You should also be able to clean the containers after every shipment and adhere to the safety standards at all times. 

To be able to perform in this job role, you should be detail-oriented individual and have excellent physical dexterity. You should be familiar with operating heavy yard vehicles and containers. In addition to this, you should be willing to work at flexible hours and in extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities 

• Reviewing and determining suitable vehicle and container placements 

• Moving vehicles and containers carefully 

• Directing and supervising vehicle and container movements 

• Cleaning vehicles and ensuring that they remain in proper working order 

• Assisting in transporting various materials to the weighing platform 

• Refueling vehicles as and when needed 

• Inspecting vehicle conditions and scheduling maintenance checks 

• Adhering to the safety standards at all times 

• Cleaning and packing equipment after every use 

• Ensuring that the containers are cleaned after every shipment 

Requirements 

• High school diploma or GED 

• Holding a valid yard hostling apprenticeship from a reputed institute is desirable 

• Proven work experience as a Yard Hostler, Yard Jockey or a similar position in the Logistics department 

• Familiarity with operating yard vehicles and containers 

• Complete knowledge of safety protocols and guidelines 

• Excellent physical dexterity 

• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions  

• Good time management and organizational skills 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

• Good communication and interpersonal skills 

• Willingness to work at long and flexible hours 

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
